It's 1979 and Camp Crystal Lake is reopening after two unsolved murders in 1958. The camp seems to be cursed. Before the two deaths, a boy drowned in the lake while unsupervised by careless, oversexed counselors.
But all of that was in the past right? Of course not. Throughout the movie, the grass-smoking, horny counselors are being picked off, even Kevin Bacon doesn't stand a chance against this mysterious killer.
It's apparent that someone doesn't want this camp to open. Maybe it's Crazy Ralph. He's very adamant about keep people away from the camp, so it's gotta be him right? Or maybe it's the ghost of Jason getting his revenge on all counselors. Or maybe.... *spoiler if you haven't seen this gem*.....
It's Jason's mom, Pamela Voorhees, getting her revenge for her dead (?) son. Yep, that's it. We don't get to see Jason in action until the second film.
Alice, the only survivor, believes that Jason is still out there.
The thing that I love about this movie isn't just that this was the first film to segue into making Jason an icon, but you have a killer that's not only a female, but an old broad! And it also helps that Betsy Palmer is an awesome lady.
Also, I like to think of it as an opposite of Psycho. Mrs. Voorhees is hearing her son tell her to kill people so she's acting out for him in a way that she's become him when she kills.
I know in the remake the killer is going to be Jason but I also know that Mrs. Voorhees does play into the film so I'd love to see what direction that goes and if I get to see an old lady bitch slap someone that would be pretty awesome too.

You also agree that Crazy Ralph is crazy sexy.
