Friday Film Recommendations: Nov 6th

Happy Friday All! Here's this week's FFR

It's not a strong follow-up to the first film but I enjoyed this quarky werewolf tale. It's been a long time since I've seen this but the end is kind of confusing as far as certain people being cured and such but overall if you don't think of it as a sequel but more of just a regular semi-cheese movie, you'll dig it.

Halloween maybe over but it around this time of year when everyone is thinking about Christmas and it's this time of year that I like to watch this movie. It's nice to have an animated Christmas movie that isn't Charlie Brown or Garfield.

The fine line between life and death is crossed by daring med students. Soon after they are all haunted by parts of their pass, some manifesting physically.

I didn't really care too much about the dude who was haunted by all the chicks he fucked or Julia Roberts' dad, it was that little evil kid beating the shit out of Kiefer Sutherland that gave me the wiggins.

If Carrie White was more into witchcraft, had a crazy crush on a teacher, she'd be Tamara. The nerdy girl in school is accidentally killed when school mates play a prank on her. Her witchary brings her back to life, makes her un-nerdy and hot and on top of wanting revenge, she wants to bang her teacher. Not the greatest movie ever, but it's damn entertaining.

Got an hour? Check out this really awesome documentary on zombies. It features interviews by George Romero (of course!) Tom Savini, Greg Nicotero, Max Brooks and others. Definitely something zombie lovers such as myself will enjoy.

1. Hostel:

Say what you will about Eli Roth but through his films you can tell that he's hardcore about horror. There's nothing I love more than when a director can spooge his fan-dom all over his films. Cabin Fever was a great homage to horror and Hostel is, in my opinion, a modern Wicker Man. That's one thing I really love about this movie other than the concept of people wanting to rub out their urge to kill someone. The main character is in a foreign place, he doesn't know who he can trust and basically everyone in the area is in on the plot to have him killed.

This is a movie I can't recommend to everyone. At the start of the "torture porn" sub-genre, people are brutally killed in this movie. It's hard for some to watch and even for me, a lot of it was uneasy. Hell, I still though it was really awesome! But still, it's not for one who's easily disturbed.

2. House of a 1000 Corpses:

I tried really hard to like this movie. I even had a great second view with an awesome crowd of people but I just couldn't connect with this movie. So you ask, why am I recommending this? Well, I didn't like but that doesn't mean you won't. I know people who dug it and since it's available online and for free, someone may want to check it out on their spare time. As Zombie's directorial debut, you can see how much he put his dark and twisted heart into this movie and for that I gave him props and I will announce to haters that I did really enjoy The Devil's Rejects.

And also this movie holds a special random memory. The first time I watched it I was with a roommate. She was drinking a glass of water and one of the scenes made her jump and she threw the water all over me. Good times.

3. The Cottage

Have never seen the trailer before watching the movie, I was expecting a hardcore slasher movie, what I got was a hardcore slasher movie with a side of comedy.

The Cottage is a relentless dark comedy with an extreme twist. Set in a remote part of the countryside, a bungled kidnapping turns into a living nightmare for our four central characters when they cross paths with a psychopathic farmer and all hell breaks loose.

Have a great weekend folks!
