31 Days of Halloween- Day 26: Prom Night

The first time I watched Scream, I completely fell in love with the character Randy Meeks. He's was cute, geeky, and he was obsessed with horror movies. I mean, HELLO! How You Doin' *wink, wink*

Well, as Randy preached on about "the rules" and loudly asked "Haven't you seen Prom Night!?" I thought to myself, "No Randy, I have not. But I'm going out to my local Randy-less video store right now and renting it." And so I did.
Prom Night did hold a "who's the killer behind the mask" theme that carried on in Scream but of course it was totally dated and there's lots of dancing. This girl loves movies with lots of dancing.

Now 10-plus years later, I revisit Prom Night and it's disco dancing glory.
Jamie Lee Curtis reprises her role as the "girl next door- don't know why there's a killer going after all of my friends" role. The movie starts off with a bunch of kids playing around an abandon building. They play a game that gets a little girl killed and they grow up thinking nothing of it till there's a killer coming to get them.

As usual, the killer can be anyone. You, me, that guy over there. Maybe it's one of the friends feeling guilty about the murder or maybe it could be the guy accused of the murder who had recently escaped from jail... dun dun dunnn.

Jamie Lee's is the sister of the dead girl and not knowing that her fellow students were involved in her death, she get caught up in the killer's plan all while trying to get her groove on at the prom.

Shit goes down, the killer is revealed and then all is right with the world...and the dancing can continue.

So rewatching this two things stuck with me. Of course...the dancing! Because it's so awesome and I remember when I saw this one dance scene I thought "Whoever is going to prom with me, is going to learn this dance and we are so going to do it to whatever random song of my choice." I'm sad to say this never happened because two years later when I went to prom, I completely forgot about my pledge to myself.

And the second thing is, the killer's pre-kill sound effects. It's like a whispering "KAW" sound. Not quite Jason's "cchha kkaaa" sound but a full on call of the kill sound. It's so weird and distracting.

Prom Night  is a nice little 80's sleeper slasher with killer moves...sorry I had to do it.
